low on memory

Hello,
could anybody help us with the problem? We are processing large images (over 200 MB) in IPP using macro to measure region size, Roi size, NumObj, IR area, Mean Signal, IOD etc.
In last days (after Windows 10 update..?) we became to have a problem with memory. In the same project some images run smoothly and some of them got stuck for hour with message 'your computer is low on memory' even if all other programs are closed. RAM of the computer is 32 GB, IPP version - 9.3.3 Build 6468, 64-bit. It seems that the IPP get stuck when it starts to count the number of objects or so. Any suggestions how to solve this?

  • Hi JanaP,

If it started happening only recently, check if you have any other programs that take up memory. You can check it in the Task Manager. If you see some suspicious programs, try to restart the PC.
Also, when you run processing in Image-Pro, check task manager for the amount of available RAM. When all memory is used, Windows starts swapping memory to disk, which slows down everything,  so you should avoid this situation.

If your images are very big, you do multiple steps of image processing, or use Smart segmentation with many channels, it may take much more RAM then the image size. So you may try to optimize you Smart segmentation recipe to use smaller number of channels (only significant).

Also, if you have millions of objects, the measurement data arrays may take much RAM, so you may optimize the number of measurements as well.
