Identify birds by face signs

I would appreciate any suggestion as to how to build a data base that will serve for identification of a particular bird by the signs around the eyes, eye size, beak size, etc'.
It could be under "pattern recognition" category, maybe?
The birds will be photographed on the wild, so the conditions will vary.
Notice the different unique "crown" signs around the eyes.
