How to open tiff-file generated from MS "Image Composite Editor" without a distortion

a TIFF image generated from MS ICE will not open in Image-Pro Plus renders a quarter of the image in a horrible tiling effect; however, Google Picasa, Photomatix Pro and Photoshop open the TIFF image just fine. An MS ICE jpg does not have the same issue...

         ICE is producing valid tiff files. The issue is that ViewNX and Quicktime don't support tiff files that contain an alpha channel. Having an alpha channel is really useful for panoramas as it encodes the valid vs. invalid regions of the result.
