Average image intensity?

What's the quickest way to calculate the average intensity of an entire image?  (I feel like it should be obvious to me, but it's not...)

    Hi Maddy,

    The quietest way is "Show Statistics" on Image Histogram. But if you need this value for future analysis you could use "Region Intensity" and create manual region to cover whole image.
